outdoor adventures

Doodlebug, doodlebug, come out your house...you're going to be destroyed by a big ole mouse.

Does anyone else remember that rhyme when they were little? And does anyone else know any more "verses". I know there were more but I just can't remember them. I haven't dug up "doodlebugs" in a long time. We had tons of them underneath a tree in our yard so we decided to go doodlebug hunting today and the boys really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if you can see the grey doodlebug on the right side of the leaf beside the stick. The other picture is of the doodlebug hole. Shaun said he had never even heard of any such creature. I'm not quite sure what the correct name of these bugs are, but it's fun to go digging for them.

Then Shaun decided he wanted to climb a tree on the side of the house...reverting back to his childhood as well I guess:) He got all the way to the top...with our boys watching his every move. That might be their next discovery...how to climb trees...thanks Shaun :)

After they were done playing, we were about to come in and Shaun turned one of the boys' small slides over because Spencer said he saw a spider web, so Shaun was going to clean it out. When he turned it over, I saw a sack and I thought it was a baby spider sack so I told him to squish it so we didn't have anymore spiders to roam around here. Then he saw the big spider and he went to get it, and realized that it was a black widow spider...a little scary. Especially because it was on one of the toys our boys play on sometimes. We are definitely going to have to be more careful in checking things out before they start to play outside...just in case :)

So that was our fun adventures outside today that happened all in an hour.

Carson had his 9 month checkup today (he's 10 months but I didn't call early enough to get him an "on-time" appointment). He's a whopping 22 lbs., 13 ounces, 30 inches tall, and has got a big head :) He's 90% for height and only 75% for weight...what?!? We have a little chunky monkey on our hands.

Anyways...here's a couple of pictures from my Grandmother's Birthday party yesterday. And one of my cousin Marshall...whose birthday was today.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

We always said, "Doodlebug, doodlebug are you home?" while using a piece of pinestraw to draw them out.
