square foot garden

We are trying something a little different this year with planting our garden. A couple of weeks ago, Shaun and the boys got the stuff together to build a square foot garden, which is just a 4' x 4' box filled with a mixture of compost, vermiculite, and peat moss. We got the idea from Shaun's brother Justin, and bought the book they had, "Square Foot Gardening" by Mel Bartholomew. It's pretty neat...the small garden is supposed to produce the same amount of vegetables as a regular sized garden, so we'll see in a couple of months if this deems true. If nothing else, the boys sure had a good time helping their daddy set it all up.

What a cool idea! I can't wait to see how it turns out.

You are all so talented - Kudos to Shaun! What great teachers you two are to the boys! I love you so much!
