planting flowers

Here's a picture of the flower garden...wait aren't there supposed to be flowers in it? It was almost dark when we finished so I couldn't take a picture of the finished project. I know it seems really small, but I was actually proud of the work we did considering we're far from being landscapers. But maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture of it and post it.

Shaun was off of work today so we had a day planned of getting things done. We went to Walmart again this morning to do our weekly grocery shopping. We were hoping to beat the crowd...but the elderly get out way before we do. So there was still a crowd. We got our shopping done and browsed around the garden section for a little bit. Shaun wanted to get a couple of vegetable plants to go in our garden...actually a 10' x 10' box Shaun filled with dirt to make our "garden". We harvested enough cherry tomatoes last year though to feed half of Lugoff so I guess the dirt wasn't actually too bad. He looked and priced the plants and while he was doing that I looked at the flowers thinking that maybe we could plant a couple around our house. I definitely do not have a green thumb, but I love flowers...so we decided that planting flowers might be a project for today. We didn't have enough room in the car for groceries and flowers so we drove home to drop the goods off, ate lunch and headed out again to Lowe's and Walmart to pick up what we needed. Andrew must have definitely been worn out from all the traveling because while we were getting the flowers, he drifted off to sleep and if Shaun wouldn't have caught his head he would've gotten a bump right on his noggin. After getting our goodies we came on home and Andrew was fast asleep in the car so we all got out and rolled the windows down and let him get his nap out while we "gardened". It seems as if leaving the boys in the car to take a nap has become a regular thing lately. Anyways...Spencer really enjoyed helping us dig the dirt and get the ground ready to plant the flowers. I've never planted a flower garden before and it was kinda fun. Shaun brought a wheelbarrow over so we could dump the dirt and grass in there and I kept looking for Spencer so he could help us. I looked up and he had gone in the house to get his plastic wheelbarrow to help daddy. Shaun put some leaves in his wheelbarrow and he thought he was helping out so much. Shaun went down to the edge of the property to dump the wheelbarrow out and Spencer tagged right along with him with his. I didn't think to get my camera until they were on their way back. I think one of his favorite parts though was helping his daddy water the tomato plants. Shaun let him hold the water hose and water them by himself and he just grinned from ear to ear. Boys and their daddys. Andrew missed out on all the fun but at least he got a little nap. He NEEDED to sleep! But that was about it for today. It was good. Sometimes it's the little things in life that make it so fun. Life is good when enjoyed with the ones that you love.
