Shaun and I were upstairs with the boys and we were talking and Andrew decided he was going downstairs, and he did ... except instead of walking down the stairs, he fell down the stairs, all the way from the landing to the bottom of the stairs, about 10 stairs. I couldn't get to him fast enough. Shaun came running after me and I scooped Andrew up, and then Shaun said that Andrew's mouth was bleeding. That was an understatement. It was pouring. I went into freak out mode, not knowing what kind of injuries he had. I ran him to the sink and tried to calm him down and told him to open his mouth ... I thought maybe he had bit his tongue. But when he did open his mouth, I saw the source of the pouring blood ... a lost tooth.
I told Shaun to look for the tooth but he couldn't find it anywhere, so I thought maybe Andrew had swallowed it. A few minutes later Shaun comes to me holding the tooth, that had been thrown all the way on the other side of the living room beside the couch ... not quite sure how it landed there ... must have been a major hit. I just about got sick seeing the tooth though because I had never seen anything like it. Shaun said he thought the root was attached...and that's what it was.
Luckily for little kids...the tooth doesn't really have to be reattached because it probably wouldn't really stay in anyways. If it would have been a permanent tooth, we would have had between 30 and 45 minutes to have the tooth back in. Hopefully if Andrew ever has this happen again when he gets older, it won't be on a Friday afternoon at 4:55, right when all the doctor's offices are just about closed, because we would have been in a lot of trouble getting that tooth back in, considering the doctor's office decided to call me back over an hour later to let me know what I needed to do. It's all good though. We survived another freak out mommy moment. Sorry if any of you got a little nauseous too looking at this tooth. I just had to share another joy of motherhood ... The end of the story is Andrew stopped crying about 15 minutes later and was playing with hot wheels soon after that. So it probably worried me ... and continues to worry me ... more than he's worried about it. I just keep thinking that he's going to have a hole in his mouth where his tooth used to be for another 4 years before he starts to lose the rest of his teeth. And he's probably thinking ... this is kind of cool because I can stick my tongue in between my teeth in the hole. It's all about perception :)
Have a great weekend!!
